When starting out a new project I start asking lots of questions. It is important to get this information out and get it into a document to fully understand and comeback to it later if needed. This may include:

  • What is the purpose and focus of the project?
  • Who do I need to be in contact with to make sure the project works out (stylist, directors, models, venue owners)?
  • What are some ideal places to shoot at?
  • What are the lighting conditions required for the photoshoot?
  • What production gear is necessary for creating this project?
  • What is the urgency and deadline of these photographs?
  • What licensing agreements need to be determined?

  • What is your process for working with new clients so that their vision is captured?

During the planning phase I like to give options to clients so that they have the final say with how photographs are set up. Maintaining communication throughout the process is key to getting the desired vision.

    Can you create video content?

Video content is an important part of product photography. Depending on the project video may be required and it is best to take advantage of that as well. Video content is also done at ijyoyo. Yes ijyoyo can create video content.

What does lighting setup do to affect a final image?

Lighting is the name of the game in Commercial Photography. Outdoor and indoor lighting or both are different in the ways that different objects may reflect differently. Outdoor light can be more randomized and you get light particles that create polarized light. There are 4 times of days that you can generally break these times down to.

Indoor lighting may come in a variety of forms like warmth, intensity and direction. Each plays a role in connecting the product to the camera to the final viewer.

How do you handle post processing and retouching of images?

Generally all product photographs go through some amount of post-processing. Post processing may include general lighting and removing or adding in parts of the images.

Although getting everything done on set is the number one step to getting a great photo, there are times when this may be challenging. Post processing for general lighting as stated before includes things like the temperature of the light, matching the white balance, changing the exposure, brightening up shadows or lower highlights. Manipulation of photos like adding or removing parts of the images is also important. Think of blemishes, dust and the like on a product. It is important to know that the more photos you add to your photoshoot the more time it takes to edit and post process the images. Generally each image averages 20-30 minutes to work on for unique sets.

Can you explain your pricing structure and any additional fees?

The pricing structure of product photography is determined based on the project needs. This may include but not limited to the creative, production and Post production categories.

The Creative or the pre-production includes getting the project started, setting up a location such as a studio or renting somewhere out, travel expenses.

Production includes any of the needed and essential elements of the photoshoot.

Post production includes the editing of the photographs, software used and sending out the final images.
