Alright since I did an article on the best foods for cooling I thought of creating one for dishes. Let’s stay refreshed together. Try some of these out.
Tarator - Cold Cucumber Soup
Thank you (Didi) for sharing this idea. Tarator is a Bulgarian dish with tahini, lemon juice, and garlic, and sometimes yogurt.
Tarator is a summer staple for Bulgarian cuisine. It may have been introduced by Greek and Ottoman cuisines. It is often used as a welcoming dish to guests. Read more here
Perfect for cooling off on hot days.
Fruit Salad
Keeping it simple with this one. Grab your favorite fruits together: apples, pineapples, watermelons, blueberries, cantaloupe, pineapples, and oranges. Gather these together to either have alone or invite people over to enjoy.
A couple tips:
- If you use apples, put lemon juice on them. This keeps them acidic and they won’t turn brown if you store them.
- Prep the watermelon beforehand. Watermelon cutting can take time and may be helpful to do at another time.
- Drain extra water the day before or a few hours before serving from the fridge.
- If you’re into experimenting, try Angostura bitters, lemon juice, or vanilla extract.
- Consider adding mint, lime juice, or honey.
- If you want the salad to pop, consider using canned nuts.
Tuna Poke Bowl
After attempting to get the ingredients together, poke bowls can be easy to make. Using a variety of ingredients, try out a Tuna Poke bowl. Use items like green onions, sesame seeds, chilled tuna, avocados, and rice.
Consider making them a day prior or earlier in the day and placing the items in the fridge to enjoy later fresh and cold.
Tomato and Noodles
One of my favorite foods to eat when it’s hot outside is refrigerated tomatoes. Often, the coolest item is tomatoes. Why not try noodles and tomatoes?
Because of tomatoes' water content you can also stay hydrated while enjoying a quick, simple dish.
Cowboy Caviar
A great dish for a potluck. This is a dish that includes peas, beans, corn, red onions, peppers, and more. Definitely worth checking out and serving cold.
Try serving these with tortilla chips or with grilled chicken. Cowboy Caviar Recipe
Can I meal prep these dishes?
Yes! These can all be portioned out a lot more. Consider making a larger batch and separating them. You can meal prep these throughout the week.
